A taste of today´s technology

Researching the research

R

I wrote recently on China’s aspirations to be the world leader in AI.  New research using statistics compiled by the US National Science Foundation (NSF) suggests they are doing exactly the right things in order to meet this objective.

Nature reports that, for the first time ever, the total number of Chinese SciTech research papers contained in Elsevier’s Scopus  database exceeds the annual output of the previous leader, the USA.  Whilst the USA is still competitive on numbers of papers cited and on SciTech doctoral students graduating, it’s R&D spend in recent years as a percentage of its economy had remained flat. While China’s has grown.

So many of the state of industry reports I read contain only about the US and perhaps the EU. In not capturing developments in SciTech in China, we only understand half the story.

I buy technology. I am curious about how technology has changed, and its impact in the workplace and upon society. I also like street art. And dachshunds. Especially dachshunds.
