A taste of today´s technology

Eyes on the future

What is very exciting to me right now is that so much of the hype that surrounds new technology is probably either true now or going to be true soon.  This is both a good news and a bad news story.

Depending on your perspective, clothes shopping can be entertainment or punishment.  The use of AR could permit you to increase the first and decrease the second.  AR-technology offers the opportunity for retail outlets to enhance the in-store shopping experience or shop within the comfort of your own home.  Either way, your credit card company wins.  And to prove it, Mastercard is now partnering on a prototype which will be on display in New York for AR shopping.  There’s a great simulation clip in this link that shows what the experience could be.  As someone who falls into the punishment category, I find this appealing.

Less positively, technology is going to eat the jobs of today and we are still not sure what the jobs of tomorrow will be.  The Bureau of Labor Statistics has some views on which jobs will see the largest percentage of growth out to 2026.  The biggest growth predictions in the US go, unsurprisingly with the large numbers of ageing boomers, to the medical sector for “personal care” and “home health aides” while manufacturing will be a big fat loser.

Glasses half full, glasses half empty, or, in future, AR glasses.

I buy technology. I am curious about how technology has changed, and its impact in the workplace and upon society. I also like street art. And dachshunds. Especially dachshunds.
